Spinal Injection Techniques by Dr Blomberg - As seen on Television.

Many of you browsing this site will have seen the program A Current Affair in 2003 and more recently on Today Tonight in 2004 featuring one of our members. The program highlighted an injection technique for the treatment of low back and buttock pain. The injection technique described was originally published in the well respected medical journal called 'Spine' in 1993 and was recently demonstrated to Australian doctors at the Annual Scientific Conference of the AAMM in October 2002 in Melbourne. It is one of many injection techniques utilized by Dr Blomberg, but one that is relatively new to Australian doctors. It should be stressed that the injection technique described on TV is used by Dr Blomberg only in about 40% of the pateints he sees with low back pain. However, all of the pateints received some spinal manipulation combined with a vigorous exercise program. Dr Blomberg is a strong believer in stretching exercises and restoration of normal activity as the basis for rehabilitation. Common sites for injections are the lower sacrum (tail bone) the lower back and the sides of the hips. Below is the background of Dr Blomberg and the links below include abstracts of Dr Blomberg's published research and a description of the specific technique seen on TV.

The majority of doctors listed on this site under Doctors Directory attended the conference last year and are familiar with Dr Blomberg's techniques. The legend in the directory describes the types of doctors listed. However, before making an appointment, it would be wise to check the doctor's area of interest with their receptionist.

Doctors reading this page who wish to learn more about the technique may purchase 2 videos from the conference featuring Dr Blomberg demonstrating his techniques including injection techniques, manipulation techniques and his pragmatic theory for managing low back pain. Cost $200 (incl GST). Discount cost to members of AAMM $100. Email requests to: Derek Davey
